DTC    P250D    Open in Engine Oil Level Sensor Circuit

DESCRIPTION

In the DPF system, after the main injection and at the end of expansion stroke, the injectors spray a small amount of fuel to control PM regeneration; this is called "post injection".
Because the temperature and pressure of the sprayed fuel are low, it arrives at the catalytic converter unburned. The fuel is then oxidized by the catalytic action and the temperature of the DPF catalyst bed increases to burn the accumulated soot.
However, some of the unburned fuel goes down to the oil pan through clearances in the cylinder walls. Thus, this fuel is mixed into the engine oil, causing the engine oil volume to increase.

HINT:
DTC P250D is available only for the vehicles with DPF system.

DTC Detection Condition
Trouble Area
All of the following conditions are met:
  1. Engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) to 86°C (187°F)
  2. Drive vehicle at a speed of 15 km/h (9.3 mph) or more
  3. Engine speed between 1400 and 2600 rpm

(1 trip detection logic)
  1. Open in engine oil level sensor circuit
  2. Engine oil level sensor
  3. ECM

HINT:
If the vehicle is driven at least 400 km (249 miles) of cumulative distance after the DTC P250D is stored, the DTC P252F will be detected.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs Registration and Initialization (Click here).

HINT:
  1. When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the intelligent tester. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initializations/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the tester display.
  2. Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

1.INSPECT ENGINE OIL LEVEL SENSOR
  1. Remove the engine oil level sensor.

6.CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the tester on.

  1. Clear the DTCs (Click here).

  1. Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches at 75 to 86°C (167 to 187°F).

  1. Drive the vehicle for 2 minutes or more at steady vehicle speed of 15 km/h (9.3 mph) or more (at an engine speed between 1400 and 2600 rpm or more).

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / DTC.

  1. Confirm that the DTC is not output again.
